Annual Coats for Kids Drive Underway for 2024

Coats for Kids: Keeping Children Warm and Focused This Winter

As the temperature drops, some children may not have a warm coat to bundle up in. WJHG, along with their sponsors Manuel and Thompson Attorneys at Law, are conducting their annual 'Coats for Kids' campaign to collect new, unused children-sized coats for those in need.

Providing Warmth and Hope for Vulnerable Children

Addressing the Issue of Homeless and Impoverished Students

According to the article, about 850 Bay District School students are homeless, and many might be sitting cold in the classroom, which can impact their ability to focus. "A lot of families are hurting, because you know we have this amount of students that are homeless, but we have so much more that are impoverished," said Lucy Maclean, Homeless Liaison for Bay District Schools. This highlights the pressing need for warm coats to ensure these vulnerable children can stay comfortable and focused during the winter months.

Collecting and Distributing Coats for Those in Need

The 'Coats for Kids' campaign is now in its 31st year, and on average, they collect 1,500 coats annually. This year, the organizers hope to increase that number with the help of the community. The collected coats will be distributed through the school system and other charitable programs for kids. "People sometimes just need help, and it makes me proud to be part of an organization Manuel and Thompson in partnership with WJHG to be able to fill the need that we see as important in the community," said Peter Egan, Attorney at Manuel & Thompson.

Leaving a Lasting Impact on Children's Lives

The campaign's mission is to make a difference in the lives of children in need. "One of the things that we want to do in this life is to leave it better, so if we can make a difference in one child's life, then we've been successful," said Waylon Thompson, Partner with Manuel & Thompson. By providing warm coats, the organizers aim to ensure that every child in the community can focus on their education and personal growth, rather than worrying about staying warm during the winter.

Convenient Donation Locations Across the Community

The 'Coats for Kids' drive will run until November 15th, and the community can drop off their new, unused children-sized coats at various locations, including the WJHG studios, the Bay County Sheriff's Office, and several local businesses and organizations. This widespread network of donation sites makes it easy for residents to contribute and support the cause. In conclusion, the 'Coats for Kids' campaign is a heartwarming initiative that aims to provide warmth and comfort to underprivileged children in the community. By collecting and distributing warm coats, the organizers are not only addressing a practical need but also making a lasting impact on the lives of those they serve.
